Does Shipt Send You a 1099? A 1099-NEC in Stripe Express, and a $2,000 Line

Shipt shoppers get a Form 1099-NEC that Shipt files and Stripe delivers through Stripe Express, and for 2026 pay the threshold is $2,000, not the $600 that both companies' pages still show. Here is what the total includes, why it follows Shipt's pay periods rather than the calendar, what to check when no form arrives, and what you have to track yourself.

Shipt shoppers get a Form 1099-NEC, filed by Shipt and delivered through Stripe Express rather than the Shopper app. For 2026 pay the threshold is $2,000, not the $600 that Shipt's and Stripe's pages still show. The total covers order pay, in-app tips, special pay, and incentives, built from Shipt's weekly pay periods, so it may not match a calendar-year total. Nothing is withheld and your vehicle costs are your own, so your mileage log carries the largest deduction many shoppers have.

Key takeaways

  • Shipt shoppers are independent contractors and get a Form 1099-NEC. There is no W-2 for shopping, and Shipt's shopper help describes no 1099-K.
  • The threshold is $2,000 for 2026 pay and was $600 for 2025. Shipt's help pages and Stripe's Shipt guide still say $600.
  • Shipt files the form and Stripe delivers it through Stripe Express by January 31, but only if you consent to e-delivery. Otherwise a paper copy is mailed.
  • The total includes order pay, in-app tips, special pay, and incentives, counted by Shipt's weekly pay periods plus Instant Payouts taken in the last days of December.
  • Shipt cannot reflect cash tips taken outside the app, and it withholds no tax, so recording cash tips and paying the tax during the year are both on you.
  • The shopper agreement makes vehicle costs yours, Stripe does not handle Shipt mileage, and Shipt's tax page points to a tracking app, so keep your own log.

Shipt sends shoppers a Form 1099-NEC once their pay for the year reaches the threshold, and for 2026 pay that threshold is $2,000. Shipt files the form and Stripe delivers it, through Stripe Express rather than the Shipt Shopper app. Shipt's help pages, and Stripe's own guide for Shipt shoppers, still say $600, which was right for 2025 pay and is out of date now.

A 1099-NEC, filed by Shipt and delivered by Stripe

Shoppers sign an independent contractor agreement with Shipt, and Target's annual report says Target engages independent contractors "most notably in our Shipt subsidiary." Contractor pay goes on a Form 1099-NEC, the form Shipt names on its tax page. Shopping for Shipt does not produce a W-2, and Shipt's shopper help pages describe no Form 1099-K. Shipt files the forms with the IRS and the relevant states, and Stripe delivers your copy. Shipt's driver help center describes a 1099 for its package delivery drivers as well, counted by the same weekly pay periods.

That delivery route is the main difference from Instacart, whose full-service shoppers also get a 1099-NEC but have found it in the Instacart Shopper app since the 2023 tax year.

Shipt still says $600. For 2026 pay the line is $2,000

Shipt's shopper tax page says you get a 1099-NEC if you earned $600 or more. Its Payment History page, updated in July 2026, still repeats $600 with 2025 dates, and so does Stripe's Shipt guide. For the forms covering 2025 pay, sent in early 2026, that was correct. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act raised the 1099-NEC threshold to $2,000 for payments made after December 31, 2025, so the form covering 2026 pay, which arrives in early 2027, uses $2,000. Our guide to the 1099 threshold covers which forms changed.

The threshold only decides whether Shipt files a form. The IRS says gig income must be reported even when no form reports it, so a shopper paid $1,500 in 2026 may get nothing in January and still has to report that pay, with self-employment tax once net earnings reach $400.

What the total includes, and the year it covers

Shipt says the 1099 total includes order pay, tips, special pay, and incentives, and it adds promo pay and extra pay into an order's pay. The year is not quite January to December. Shipt builds it from its Monday-to-Sunday pay periods: the 2025 form covered earnings from December 30, 2024 through December 28, 2025, plus any Instant Payout withdrawn from December 29 through 11:59 p.m. local time on December 31. Shipt has not posted the 2026 dates yet.

So the form may not match a total you add up from bank deposits. Compare it with the end-of-year pay statement in the Shopper app (Payment History, then Download), which every shopper can get, form or no form, and which shows earnings and tips separately. If the two differ, check late December first.

Getting the form out of Stripe Express

Starting in November, Stripe emails an invitation to set up Stripe Express. Stripe's subject line is "Get your Shipt tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery," while Shipt's page says to look for "Confirm your tax information with Shipt," so search for both. Once you are in, consent to e-delivery: without it you cannot view or download the form there, and with it the form is ready by January 31. Decline e-delivery, or get no email from Stripe by mid-January, and a paper copy is mailed instead, which can take up to 10 more business days.

Check your name, address, and Social Security number by January 21, because Stripe locks edits to tax information from January 21 to February 3. For an EIN instead of your SSN, Shipt says to email a W-9 to [email protected]. Corrections after filing start with the edit option in Stripe Express and finish with Shipt, which files the corrected form.

If no form has arrived

  • Your pay was under the threshold, $600 for 2025 and $2,000 for 2026.
  • Stripe's email is in spam or went to an old address. Shipt support can update your email.
  • You chose e-delivery and are waiting for paper. Shipt says it cannot mail a paper copy then, so print the electronic one.
  • Your account is shared, or your email is on more than 20 accounts, which Stripe Express does not support. Contact Shipt.

Tips count, and the tip deduction may apply

Shipt says shoppers keep 100 percent of customer tips, and tips paid through the app are inside the 1099 total. Cash tips are yours to track: Shipt says it cannot reflect tips collected outside the app, and the shopper agreement makes reporting them your job. The IRS's current Form 1099-NEC instructions add a Box 1b for the part of the Box 1a total that was tips. Shipt has not said how its form covering 2026 will fill it.

Shipt's year-end statement shows tips separately, which matters for the new federal deduction for qualified tips, up to $25,000 a year for 2025 through 2028. The IRS list of tipped occupations includes goods delivery people, with grocery delivery drivers and app-based delivery people among its examples. For the self-employed, the deduction cannot exceed net income from the work that earned the tips, and it phases out above $150,000 of modified adjusted gross income ($300,000 joint). The IRS says a gig worker's tips are still subject to self-employment tax.

Your car, your costs, your log

The shopper agreement puts every vehicle cost on you, from buying and maintaining the car to parking and tolls. Shipt sets pay from inputs such as estimated drive time, but that is pay, not a mileage reimbursement, so your business miles are still yours to deduct. Stripe says it does not handle mileage reporting for Shipt, and Shipt's tax page suggests a mileage-tracking app. In California, Proposition 22 adds a pay floor that counts engaged miles at 37 cents each, but it only tops up pay that falls short, and those miles stop when the order is done.

For many shoppers, mileage is the largest deduction of the year. The IRS business rate for 2026 is 72.5 cents a mile through June 30 and 76 cents from July 1, and the IRS expects the miles, date, and business purpose of each trip recorded at or near the time. See what a compliant mileage log needs and how the mid-year rate change works, and for what else a shopper can deduct, tax deductions for rideshare and delivery drivers.

Log the miles Shipt does not pay for

Vuuv records each drive with the date, distance, and business purpose the IRS asks for, so the deduction that usually matters most for a shopper is documented when you file.

Nothing is withheld, so plan for the bill

Shipt's pay FAQ answers "Are taxes taken out of my paycheck?" with a plain no, and the shopper agreement says Shipt has no authority to withhold unless the law requires it. The income tax and self-employment tax on your profit are yours to pay, usually through quarterly estimated payments. Our guides to quarterly estimated taxes and self-employment tax cover how much to set aside and when it is due.

Frequently asked questions

Does Shipt send you a 1099?

Yes, once your pay for the year reaches the threshold. Shipt shoppers work as independent contractors, and Shipt files a Form 1099-NEC for them that Stripe delivers through Stripe Express. For 2026 pay the threshold is $2,000, and for 2025 pay it was $600. Shopping for Shipt does not produce a W-2, and Shipt's shopper help pages describe no Form 1099-K.

Is the Shipt 1099 threshold $600 or $2,000?

It depends on the year you were paid. Shipt's help pages and Stripe's Shipt guide still say $600, which was the federal threshold through 2025. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act raised the 1099-NEC threshold to $2,000 for payments made after December 31, 2025, so the form covering 2026 pay, which arrives in early 2027, uses $2,000. The income is taxable either way.

Where do I find my Shipt 1099?

In Stripe Express, not the Shipt Shopper app. Stripe starts emailing invitations in November. Set up the account and consent to e-delivery, and the form is there to download by January 31. If you decline e-delivery, or Stripe's email has not reached you by mid-January, a paper copy is mailed instead. The Shopper app has a separate end-of-year pay statement under Payment History.

Why haven't I received my Shipt 1099?

The usual reasons are that your pay was under the threshold, that Stripe's email went to spam or to an address Shipt no longer has, or that you chose e-delivery and are waiting for a paper copy Shipt says it will not mail. Search your inbox, spam included, for the two subject lines Stripe and Shipt use: Get your Shipt tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery, and Confirm your tax information with Shipt. If nothing turns up, Shipt points shoppers to support.stripe.com/express or [email protected]. The income is reportable either way.

Are Shipt tips included on the 1099?

Tips paid through the app are. Shipt says the 1099 total includes order pay, tips, special pay, and incentives, and the end-of-year statement in the Shopper app shows your tips as a separate figure so you can see the part that may qualify for the federal tip deduction. Cash tips are different: Shipt says it cannot reflect tips collected outside the app and recommends documenting them, and they are still income.

Does Shipt pay or track mileage?

Shipt does not reimburse mileage. The shopper agreement makes your vehicle costs yours, and estimated drive time is an input to pay, which makes it income rather than a reimbursement. California's Proposition 22 pay floor counts engaged miles, but it only tops up pay that falls short. Stripe says it does not handle mileage reporting for Shipt, and Shipt's tax page suggests a mileage-tracking app. Your own log, with the date, miles, and business purpose of each trip, supports the deduction: 72.5 cents a mile through June 30, 2026 and 76 cents from July 1.
