Does Grubhub Send You a 1099? The $2,000 Line and the December Cutoff

Grubhub reports driver pay on a Form 1099-NEC, not a 1099-K, and its help pages still quote a $600 threshold that stopped applying to pay received after 2025. Here is when the form arrives, why it follows the payment date instead of the delivery date, and what to keep when no form comes at all.

Grubhub reports driver pay on a Form 1099-NEC, not a 1099-K. For pay received in 2026 the form is required at $2,000, not the $600 that Grubhub's help pages still show, because the One Big Beautiful Bill Act raised the threshold for payments made after December 31, 2025. The form follows the payment date, so a December 31 delivery paid in January lands on the next year's form unless you cash it out before 11:45 p.m. Grubhub withholds no tax, and the income is taxable with or without a form.

Key takeaways

  • Grubhub issues delivery partners a 1099-NEC, with pay in Box 1 as nonemployee compensation. Its driver help center describes no 1099-K.
  • The threshold is $2,000 for pay received in 2026 and was $600 for 2025. Grubhub's own pages still show $600.
  • Pay is reported by payment date. An Instant Cash Out started before 11:45 p.m. on December 31 counts on that year's form, and a December delivery paid in January counts on the next one.
  • Opt into electronic delivery before January 1 to download the form in February. Otherwise a paper copy is mailed, and an address change after the fact does not produce a corrected form.
  • Grubhub withholds no taxes and keeps no mileage log for you, so estimated payments and the log are both your job.

Grubhub sends delivery partners one kind of tax form, a Form 1099-NEC, and only once your pay for the year reaches the threshold. For pay received in 2026 that threshold is $2,000. Grubhub's help center still says $600, which was right for 2025 and is out of date now. Two other details catch drivers every January: the form counts pay by the date you were paid rather than the date you delivered, and nothing was withheld along the way.

One form, and it is not a 1099-K

Grubhub reports what it paid you in Box 1 of a Form 1099-NEC, as nonemployee compensation, which is how the IRS classifies pay to an independent contractor. The delivery partner agreement says the same thing in contract language: Grubhub reports the service fees it paid you for the calendar year on a Form 1099 if the volume of payments qualifies. The driver help center describes no Form 1099-K for delivery partners. Grubhub's 1099-K help page is written for restaurants, so a guide that tells drivers to expect one is mixing up the two sides of the app. This is the same setup DoorDash uses for Dashers, and the opposite of Uber, which reports trip earnings on a 1099-K.

Grubhub still says $600. For 2026 pay the line is $2,000

Grubhub's help page on who receives a 1099-NEC says the form goes to delivery partners paid $600 or more during the previous calendar year, and three other help articles repeat the figure. A driver blog post Grubhub updated in April 2026 still says $600 as well. For the forms covering 2025 pay, the ones that went out in early 2026, that was correct. For 2026 pay it is not. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act raised the 1099-NEC reporting threshold from $600 to $2,000 for payments made after December 31, 2025, so the form covering this year, which arrives in early 2027, uses $2,000. Our guide to the 1099 threshold lists every form that changed and the few that did not.

The threshold only decides whether Grubhub has to file a form. A driver paid $1,500 in 2026 may get nothing in January and still owes income tax and self-employment tax on the profit, so do not plan the year around a form that may never come.

The form follows the payment date, not the delivery date

Grubhub reports pay by when the funds were made available to you. Its own example is a $10 delivery on December 31 that is paid on January 2, which shows up on the next year's 1099-NEC. The exception is Instant Cash Out. Start one before 11:45 p.m. local time on December 31 and the money is released before midnight, so it counts on the current year's form.

This is why the total on your form and a total you add up yourself can disagree by a few days of pay. If they do not match, check the last week of December and the first week of January before assuming either number is wrong.

Opt into electronic delivery before January 1

Grubhub processes forms at the end of January. Starting in February, drivers who opt into electronic delivery can select Get my tax form in the Grubhub for Drivers app or the Driver Portal and get an emailed copy within 24 hours. Drivers who had not opted in before January 1 also receive a paper form, mailed to the address on file. You can check your enrollment in the app under Account, then Personal info, then Tax form information.

Two details are easy to miss. Grubhub does not issue a corrected form for an address change, so update your address before the forms go out rather than after. And the name and number on the form come from the W-9 you signed. Grubhub lets you change your tax classification and enter a Social Security number or an EIN in the app, which produces a new W-9 to e-sign, but it cannot get an EIN for you. That comes from the IRS, for free.

Nothing is withheld, so the tax is due during the year

Grubhub states that it does not withhold any federal, state, or local taxes from driver income. Every payment arrives whole, and the income tax and self-employment tax on your profit are yours to pay, usually through quarterly estimated payments. A driver who waits until April to settle the whole year can owe an underpayment penalty on top. Our guides to quarterly estimated taxes and self-employment tax cover how much to set aside and when it is due.

Your mileage is your job

Grubhub's help center is direct about this: tracking your mileage through the year is your responsibility, and its 1099 and driver support teams do not have mileage information you may be missing. For most drivers the standard mileage deduction is the largest deduction of the year, and the IRS expects a record kept at the time, with the date, the miles, and the business purpose of each trip. See what a compliant mileage log needs and where the commuting line falls.

Keep the mileage log Grubhub does not

Vuuv records each drive with the date, distance, and business purpose the IRS asks for, so the largest deduction most drivers have is documented when you need it.

Tips, and checking the form

Grubhub says drivers keep 100 percent of their tips, and tips are taxable income like the rest of your pay. Its help pages do not spell out whether in-app tips are inside the Box 1 figure, so before you file, compare the form with the weekly pay summaries Grubhub sends. If the numbers differ, look at tips and at the turn of the year first. For everything else a driver can deduct besides mileage, see tax deductions for rideshare and delivery drivers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Grubhub send you a 1099?

Yes, once your pay reaches the threshold. Grubhub reports delivery partner pay on a Form 1099-NEC, in Box 1 as nonemployee compensation, and its driver help center describes no Form 1099-K for delivery partners. For pay received in 2026 the form is required once Grubhub pays you $2,000 or more during the year. For 2025 the line was $600.

Is the Grubhub 1099 threshold $600 or $2,000?

It depends on the year the money was paid. Grubhub's help pages still say $600, which was the federal threshold for payments made through December 31, 2025. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act raised it to $2,000 for payments made after that date, so the form covering 2026 pay, which arrives in early 2027, uses $2,000. The income is taxable either way.

When and where do I get my Grubhub 1099?

Grubhub processes forms at the end of January. Starting in February, drivers who opt into electronic delivery can select Get my tax form in the Grubhub for Drivers app or the Driver Portal and receive an emailed copy within 24 hours. Drivers who had not opted in before January 1 also get a paper form mailed to the address on file.

Why did a December Instant Cash Out change my 1099?

Because Grubhub reports pay by the date it was made available to you, not the date of the delivery. Grubhub's own example is a $10 delivery on December 31 that is paid on January 2, which appears on the next year's 1099-NEC. An Instant Cash Out started before 11:45 p.m. local time on December 31 is released before midnight and counts on the current year's form instead.

Does Grubhub withhold taxes from driver pay?

No. Grubhub states that it does not withhold any federal, state, or local taxes from driver income. The income tax and self-employment tax on your profit are yours to pay, usually through quarterly estimated payments.

Does Grubhub track my mileage for taxes?

Grubhub's help center says tracking your mileage through the year is your responsibility, and that its 1099 and driver support teams do not have mileage information you may be missing. The IRS expects a record kept at the time, with the date, miles, and business purpose of each trip, so keep your own log.
